Paul Dolan

Paul Dolan is an artist living in Newcastle Upon Tyne. He is Assistant Professor at Northumbria University and part of the Cultural Negotiation of Science group (CNoS).

Using photography, game engines and VFX software, Dolan explores the life of digital images before and after the moment of consumption on screen - their production within energy hungry industrial sites such as render farms, the time-consuming labour of visual effects artists, and the ultimate degradation of the hardware within which they are stored.

Dolan’s work prompts raises questions about the sustainability of contemporary digital culture whilst also pointing towards the messy ways in which digital images are entangled within human, non-human, material and virtual networks.
